IACUC Administrators Alliance

Transition of the IACUC Administrators Association to the IACUC Administrators Alliance

For more than 25 years, the IACUC Administrators Association (IAA) has proudly supported the IACUC administrative community, fostering collaboration, professional development, and a strong national network of peers. Thanks to the unwavering support of our members, as well as invaluable support and participation from OLAW, the USDA, and AAALAC International, we collectively have held hundreds of virtual and in-person meetings, developed meaningful training programs, and strengthened the foundation of IACUC administration across the country.

Today, we share with you both an expression of deep gratitude and a look toward the future.
Over the past six months, we have begun a thoughtful and deliberate transition of Association functions to the newly formed IACUC Administrators Alliance. This transition ensures that the values, spirit, and support structure cultivated over the past two decades will continue to grow and evolve for years to come. The Alliance, comprised of a core group of dedicated faculty members and supported by an advisory board, will carry forward the mission of supporting and elevating IACUC professionals.

What to Expect Moving Forward

1. 2024–2026: Association operations will gradually shift to the Alliance

2. Leadership Support: Ron and Bill will remain actively involved throughout the transition period, serving as leaders and mentors to the new Alliance team and advisory board.

3. New Structure: While the nonprofit arm of the Association will be sunsetting with Ron and Bill’s retirement, the Alliance and its advisory board will be assisted as they establish the future structure and governance of the organization.

4. End of 2026: The IACUC Administrators Association will formally sunset, and the Alliance will fully assume all programming and community leadership functions.

Over the next year and a half, funding from the IACUC Administrators Association will be gradually depleted, with all remaining proceeds directed in support of Alliance-related functions and activities. During this transition period, Alliance programming and resources will continue to be offered under the umbrella of Basic Training and Best Practices, ensuring continuity of service to the IACUC community. These efforts will remain in place through the end of 2026. With the idea that by then the IACUC Administrators Alliance will have fully established its own independent governance and organizational structure, and assume full responsibility for future operations and initiatives.

With Deepest Thanks

We want to express our sincere appreciation to every member of the IACUC administrative community who has contributed to the Association’s longevity and impact. Your participation, insights, and enthusiasm have been the backbone of this organization. We also extend special thanks to our colleagues at OLAW, the USDA, and AAALAC International for their steadfast partnership and engagement throughout our journey.

As we are moving through this transition, we invite you to stay connected, participate in upcoming events, and share the next chapter of support for IACUC administrators.
With gratitude,

The IACUC Administrators Association Leadership

Ron & Bill
