IAA BROWN BAG Session (Members Only) - Waiver from IACUC Review

Registration is closed for this event
The session is designed to encourage open dialogue and will be held in an informal, members-only setting to facilitate discussion. Participants will have the opportunity to share experiences, ask questions, and explore how institutions have effectively addressed this concern.

Discussion Topic:

IACUC Administrators Association members please join us for a brown bag discussion on navigating manuscript submissions that reference vertebrate animals but do not involve activities requiring IACUC review. Frequently, a publisher requires proof that an IACUC has reviewed animal activities associated with the prospective publication even it the described activities are exempt from IACUC review.

While PHS Policy, the Animal Welfare Act Regulations (AWARs), and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals define the scope of IACUC oversight, some publishers still request IACUC clearance before accepting a manuscript. This session will clarify when IACUC review is not required, with supporting citations, and present a sample waiver process and documentation to confirm IACUC consideration without formal review. Bring your questions and experiences as we explore practical solutions to this growing challenge.
