Membership in the IAA is open to all individuals who have substantial responsibility for the direct administrative support to the institution's program of animal care and use. Institutional Membership is open to all organizations maintaining an animal care and use program. Institutions may have three of their staff members represent their institution. Other Types of Membership:

Dues Exempt Associate; Honorary Associate

Dues Exempt Associate: There are three categories of Dues Exempt Associates (Dues Exempt Associates are eligible for all other privileges and rights of the Association except as may be prohibited by the Board):

  1. Category I: Individuals identified by their institution as being the institution's representative are dues exempt. Institutional representative 'Associates' shall have the right to vote and shall be eligible to hold elected office within the Association.

  2. Category II: An Active Associate in good standing may petition the Board of Directors, for a status of Dues Exempt Associate. The Board may grant Dues Exempt Status to those Associates who receive a unanimous vote of the Board. Due exempt Associates will be defined as meeting certain Board requirements. One example of who may qualify under this category would be Associates who are active member of the Association for 10 or more years and no longer are employed in a role of IACUC Administrator. Dues Exempt Associates shall not be required to pay dues, do not have the right to vote, and shall not hold elected office within the Association.
  3. Category III: An invited international associate (an individual who has substantial responsibility for the direct administrative support to the institution's program of animal care and use) may join the Association as an international ad hoc associate. The candidate member shall be presented to the Board and must receive unanimous approval for international ad hoc membership in the Association. International ad hoc associates shall not pay dues, do not have the right to vote, nor shall hold elected office within the Association.

Honorary Associate: This is an individual who has been bestowed by the Board of Directors a status of Honorary Associate. Honorary Associates are determined by the Board according to their accomplishments involving outstanding contributions to the field of IACUC management and performance. An unanimous affirmative vote of the Board of Directors is necessary for election to Honorary Associate status. Honorary members shall not be required to pay dues, not have the right to vote, nor serve in an elected capacity of the Association. Active members may recommend individuals for Honorary status to the Board of Directors.
