Wildlife Focused IACUC Administrators Best Practice Meeting An IACUC Administrators Best Practice Meeting will be held at the University of Alaska Fairbanks on July 17th and 18th, 2018. Attendance is limited to approximately 50 individuals, so follow the link above to secure your spot. See agenda details below. The IACUC Administrators Association (IAA) is a strong advocate for the animal care and use administrative community. The IAA was established in 2006 to facilitate the sustainable development of IACUC administrative professionals, and the ongoing advancement of institutions’ animal care and use programs (ACUP). The IAA provides administrators professional development opportunities primarily through IACUC Administrators’ Best Practice (BP) Meetings. BP meetings are facilitated by co-moderators with colleagues from OLAW, the USDA and AAALAC International present to participate in open discussions. BP meeting discussions, investigate and evaluate the specific mechanics of various ACUP processes.

 ·         What is Good Welfare and Introducing a Tool to Assess Animal Welfare

  • Field Techniques/Activities; Understanding trapping, equipment and mechanisms used (Time permitting various field demonstrations with discussions will occur)
  • Inspecting Captive Wildlife Facilities (including hibernating animals)
  • Federal and State Permitting Requirements; FAQ’s with Q/A
  • Housing in the Natural Environment including a “hands-on” inspection of captive musk oxen

Wednesday, July 18, 2018

  • Field Studies vs. Field Research – what’s the difference?
  • Field Euthanasia Procedures
  • IACUC Review – what does it entail (OccHealth, Risk to Habitat, Animal Activities)?
  • Regulatory Oversight and Best Practices – the AWA, The Guide, Guidelines of the American Society of Mammologists, Other Taxa guidelines (USDA, OLAW, AAALAC)

*   Registrants have an opportunity to request specific meeting topics.  Consequently the meeting agenda may be enhanced based on registrants’ requests.
